Rotorua participated in the Loveblock Nationwide Pairs on Friday evening, and we had our largest field in years at the club with 26 pairs competing. Maybe word had got out about the wonderful food on offer! Many thanks to Hilary and her team for the delicious array of nibbles and savouries provided. It was a social as well as a competitive occasion, with members arriving early for a drink and chance to chat beforehand.
We had pairs from Tauranga and Te Puke competing as well as a good local turnout. As always in this competition, there was a good selection of tricky and interesting hands to challenge everyone. Biggest success on the night went to the Rotorua pair of Gill Nelson and Cathy Ward, who were last minute entries to make up an even number. They scored an impressive 74.84% at the club, which translated to a nationwide score of 70.58, enough to make them second overall out of 818 pairs! Top pair nationwide were David Larsen and Murray Barron from Taieri.
Thanks also to directors on the night Heini and Alan, and Ruth and all the committee who organised a very enjoyable evening for all grades of players to mix and mingle.
