The club held a very enjoyable and successful Ib Thulin Handicap Tournament on Sunday. This is always a popular tournament among Rotorua club members, and it was great to see so many of the newer players taking part. Congratulations to the winners, Jude Lipanovic and Suzette White.
Other handicap placings were:
Second: Shirley Gainsford and Maureen Carter
Fourth: Trevor Heath and Donald White
Fifth: Gill Nelson and Regina van der Sluis
The top pair “off the stick” were Margie Robbie and Marie Milsum, who were also third on handicap.
The tournament has been running for 40 years now, in honour of Ib Thulin, a founding member and president of the club, and it was especially good to have a winner of the original event in 1984, John Brunel, taking part again this year. A testament to the durabiliity of the tournament – and of bridge players.
Thank you to everyone who helped, participated and brought food for the ample morning and afternoon teas, and especially to our director and scorer Heini Lux and Alan Dick respectively, who also managed to play. And many thanks to our sponsors Craigs Investment Partners, who have been sponsoring this tournament for many years now. Their support is much appreciated.
