One of the good things about bridge tournaments is that even if the bridge doesn’t go well, there is always the chance of winning a prize in the raffle. One pair from Rotorua were at a tournament recently where they were watching the prize pool dwindle until there were just two options left – a pair of socks and a distinctly unlovely vase. Then just the vase was left – “please don’t win this, Rex” thought Joyce – and of course he did!
But, just as can happen with the cards, bad luck can turn to good. By chance an antique dealer was valuing items for them, when they hadn’t had a chance to dispose of it yet, and eyed it up. No, it wasn’t a priceless Ming dynasty vase, but it was Chinese and worth $100. Not bad for the last prize in a raffle!
